Tinnitus (pronounced TIN-ih-tus) is commonly referred to as a constant ringing or noise in the ears. Over 50 million Americans experience tinnitus to some degree; that’s about 1 in 6 people. At least 50% of individuals with tinnitus also have hearing loss, and most of these cases go untreated. Those that do go untreated can often turn into more severe problems. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for those suffering with this condition. Now we have the opportunity to give these individuals a real option for relief through sound therapy programs embedded in their hearing aids.
Few ailments are as subjective as tinnitus. From what it sounds like to when it’s most annoying to how debilitating it can be, tinnitus affects every patient differently.
